Check the breaker
Look for a tripped breaker at the panel and the disconnect box next to the outdoor unit. Reset once. If it trips again, leave it off — something is shorting and needs

Check the thermostat
Replace batteries and confirm it's set to Cool and Auto.
Look for ice
Ice on the lines means the system needs to thaw before any repair. Turn cooling off, fan On.
Check the drain line
Many Florida air handlers have a float switch that shuts the system off when the drain clogs. If the pan is full, that's likely the cause — a quick fix for a technician.
Keep the house cool
Close blinds, run ceiling fans, avoid the oven, and move pets and elderly family to the coolest room.
